Safe to spray NEAR trees?

I have Gordon’s Trimec platinum. Looking to spray front lawn. There are two trees, one of them is a river birch, the other I’m unsure. Is it safe to spray near the trees? I obviously don’t plan to spray the tree itself, but there is some nutsedge in the planter bed underneath the tree. How cautious do I need to be? Don’t know if there’s risk of the product going down to the roots or causing damage in any way.
