Sucks. I had a service do the same thing to mine some years ago.
Not much you can get from them other than a refund.
Just gotta start from scratch and sod/reseed.
On the upside, if you’ve been envying some other type of grass… now’s your moment.
Bpp908
Sorry bro, but I’m not surprised at all. You can do this yourself. Plenty of advice on here.
Simple-Hurry6670
My neighbor uses them too. They suck. His lawn looks like crap and I have to keep helping him fix what the service doesn’t do. They treated for Nutsedge and killed the lawn. If they do fertilize at all, it’s clearly not enough.
immortalblack_1
I cut these guys off earlier this year as well for similar reasons. Can you guys point me to a good thread so I can start up my own method?
Iceman_WN_
This is why I keep telling my 78yr old mother not to call them to do her yard. I’ll do it myself.
Outrageous-Banana905
Some guy with a true green truck asked me multiple times to get their service. I finally had enough and told him no one was touching my saint Augustine grass. He stopped after that.
Own_Produce4826
If you are planning to switch, I have a friend in the same area that uses Kingstown Lawn Care and they have been great from what I have heard. NuLeaf is what my BIL uses and they’re good too.
Realistic-Salad-8220
The problem with lawn care companies is that they come once a week or every other week. You need to keep an eye on your grass daily for any signs of stress, especially if you have fescue in the mid Atlantic. Looks to me like your lawn died of fungus and the weeds took over
This is also on you. Your lawn didn’t die overnight and the crab didn’t take over that quickly either. You should have said something months ago
nn111304
Crazy all it left was the weeds
Extreme_Meal_3805
This is what happens when your lawn was full of weeds and u kill them. Bare spots show where all the weeds were growjng
DrRavioliMD
This happens because Tru green doesn’t train very well. Most of their locations the techs get a pre made mix filled up by their managers and then they spray that. They don’t totally know what’s in this mix because they didn’t make it and the are just spray jockeys. Occasionally some of the branches have techs that actually know their stuff and can mix and adjust products. The average employee there does not and just sprays what was put in their tank, and they don’t always apply it correctly.
Desperate_Set_7708
Services are a consumer fraud.
Big-Rise7340
I had to fire them years ago

If you use TruGreen, you’re doing it wrong. So much easier (and cheaper) to get your own chemicals and apply yourself. Knowledge is power.
Then, second, get the fertilizers–based on your objectives–from the same site. The first application is always the hardest because you’re learning for the first time. After the third, you’ll be a pro, AND you’ll have your own system throughout the seasons for timing and applications (pre-emergents, basic granules, organic sprays, shrubs and trees, etc.). Taking control is not only enjoyable, but you can see what works and what doesn’t and modify from there.
I used TruGreen and they not only bought the worst products, but also watered them down or only did half applications–or burned the lawn. People care to tend the things they own, and pride in one’s work went out the window during Covid.
Do it yourself.

Are the pics reversed? The before pic looks way worse than the After pic.
janice2705050
They told me the only way to end the contract would be to move. So stopped paying them. When it’s time to treat the lawn I pay them again. They are a nightmare
Swimming_Age_9750
Rent yourself an aerator over seeder and that will aerate your property and reseed all the wholes at the exact same time. Those machines are priceless and I own one with my lawn mowing business.
Swimming_Age_9750
Plus I’d send a message to True Green and ask for all your money back cause someone was walking way to slow or they mixed the chemicals incorrectly.
Robo504
I would never recommend them they killed my lawn 2years ago
They stink
Kevaroo83
Tru green is the worst but we aren’t getting the full story here. The two different pictures speak volumes.
dumbledores_dildo
Well considering they used to be called ChemLawn back in the day, there ain’t nothing green about them.
RefrigeratorBig7166
I had issues with them about 8 years ago. Filed a complaint, they responded and said they would send a “specialist” out. Literally told he didn’t know much about growing grass. That’s when I cut them off.
justthesameway
when did you start using them? crabgrass
is dormant so trugreen didn’t leave it it.
it was always there and would grown in the summer unless a preemergent was put down in spring. everything looks great in spring until the summer heat and humidity gets to our NOVA lawns. not saying trugreen is without
fault here.
Ok_Engine_1442
Ok so in the TOS. What are the recourses. Not me but by brother used a service that nuked his lawn. He took them to small claims court for 5k. Got new sod.
johngnh88
Trugreen is absolute garbage. Do not trust them.
toolo
Did they. What is your definition of a lawn? Green weeds?

Flaky_Guarantee5869
I’m in Maryland and used them years back and it didn’t help the lawn. Now I use a local smaller company and the grass is doing pretty good
FlogrownPestman
Advice from someone in the industry, stay away from the national companies for your lawns. They’re penny pinchers with chemical and they go through techs meaning the guy spraying your yard probably has no clue what he’s looking at or doing. They reel you in with those cheap prices which translates well to you can already guess…
cofast2
When a major lawn care company used wrong chemical on my lawn and killed it the branch manager offered to throw some seed out in spring, i wrote about 12 letters total every executive in that company and also their parent company numbering each letter so each one knew there were more letters. They resodded my yard. When someone gets a actual letter they will almost always read it emails not really. Well good luck
mdhugh859
Scalp, kill, dethatch, and start over.
Strange-Smoke-4420
They treated the real grass, climate probably killed all the winter rye. You can see it’s only dead where all the light green patches of grass were. Just get a cheap bag of grass seed and a few bags of topsoil. It will go back to pic B in a couple of weeks with just a few days of heavy water. In your defense they should’ve know to over seed those areas with a perineal seed well before summer
jonchines
A family friend was having a tough time with his zoysia yard and called them out to help. They assessed his circular dead spots and commenced to oversees it with Bermuda. Real winners.
MrBrainwashed
I’ve had a different experience with TruGreen.
When I moved into my house two year ago, my lawn was 99% made up of various weeds. We’ve been using them for those two years, and we have only had crabgrass this summer, but I also didn’t water when they put down pre emergent and grass seed, so my lawn was very thin and allowed for crabgrass to germinate. I recognize that the crabgrass and thin lawn wasn’t their fault, but the experience of my ignorance and lack of knowledge for not watering my lawn when they threw down pre emergent and grass seed. But because of them, my lawn is now 90% weed free other than crabgrass that was able to germinate due to my thin lawn.
Odd-Falcon-8234
It’s a terrible company. I fired them after one treatment
landofcheeseandhoney
TruGreen also destroyed our lawn last year. Completely burnt it to the point it was just dirt. Had there manager come out and he was like, “ya, this is bad.” We did end up getting a refund but it ended up taking close to 6 months and was a giant pain.
Just did it ourselves, laid down some new sod and it is coming along nicely.
45FI
Well, they have recently performed an aeration and overseeding with Tall Fescue. I’m not sure what’s gonna happen from here. Sort of want to get Sand and level it out to see how it goes…
mase7286
I had TruGreen on video sit in front of my house for 30 minutes, only to get out and put the “Today’s service included” pamphlet on my mailbox after applying absolutely nothing. After sharing the video they agreed to aerate my lawn at no charge, the tech came and ran out of gas 2 minutes into the job and needed my help pushing it back into his trailer. DO IT YOURSELF FOLKS!!
Spiritual_Ad1177
I caught them lying about the treatments they were doing. They said they used granular fertilizer on my yard and I literally watched him get out and spray a few weeds and then sit in his truck for ten mins and leave. Did the same to our friends that live in our neighborhood.
CharlieBoxCutter
Spray it with grass/weed killer and next month aerate and over seed.
