Hi guys
I have recently bought a tillandsia from ikea. After a bit of digging, I've found the whole name of this plant is tillandsia capitata maya gold. As you can see, it was originally planted in soil. Reading this subreddit i understood it doesnt need that so I've taken it out. But seeing as it doesn't look like a regular airplant on this sub, I'm having second thoughts. Is it okay for it to live without soil?

I think this might be a bromeliad rather than an air plant, but I can’t be sure. Air plants are a type of bromeliad that take their nutrients from the air. Some other bromeliads can live like air plants. Others need soil. Some can live either in air or soil. I am not an expert, so hopefully someone else knowledgeable about the different types can explain. But if it was sold like that, it’s probably OK to keep as it is. With any type of bromeliad, avoid having any water pool in the centre of the plant.
