The National Garden Scheme (NGS) will open applications for its 2026 Community Garden Grants from September 15 to October 20, 2025, with eligibility information already available online.

The scheme supports projects with a horticultural focus and aims to benefit local communities or charitable groups.

George Plumptre, chief executive of the NGS, said: “We welcome applications for projects that foster diversity and/or support people with physical or mental disabilities.

“With all applications considered on their individual merits, awards between £1,500 and £5,000 will be granted.”

In 2025, a total of 114 projects received funding, with grants totalling £288,876.

Past recipients included community gardens and allotments, rehabilitation and regeneration projects, gardens supporting mental health and wellbeing, and training schemes for young people.

The grant programme is supported by the Julia Rausing Trust.

Guidelines and eligibility details are available on the NGS website.

Applicants will have four weeks to review the material and ask questions before the application window opens.

Due to high demand, only the first 300 applications will be considered.

Successful applicants will be notified in April 2026.
