Bad weather failed to take the bloom off a popular annual flower show.
Saturday, August 16 saw the 124th Deskford Flower show bring a riot of colour to the local community centre.

A whole host of classes were up for grabs, including flowers, floral art, baking, vegetables and industrial, with a huge range of talent on display for the crowds who flocked to the show over the course of the afternoon.
It was a case of as you were in the Baldwin Cup for Most Points Overall (Gents) with Fordyce’s Alan Morrison retaining his title, while the Rose Bowl for Most Points Overall (Ladies) was Alison
On hand to present the prizes was Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Banffshire Rev Dr Kay Gauld.
There was plenty to do for all the family once the competition entries had been admired, with the display of tractors making a welcome return to the event. Highland dancers and local DJ Shane McHattie adding to the entertainment on offer. The two lucky square fundraisers attracted a lot of interest and the teas and coffees on offer proved to be very busy.
While that day itself turned out to be a cracker, the run-up to the show did not look quite so rosy, as organiser Mamie Mitchel explained.

“The weather in the run-up to the flower show was really rubbish, between Storm Floris, rain and hail.
“Some people were saying that because of this there’d be nothing to put in the show and on the Friday night we were a bit worried as not much had come in. However, in the end we had plenty of everything with a lot coming in on the Saturday morning.
“The sun shone and we had a very good day – we’re very, very happy with the way things went.
“At one stage it was so busy you just couldn’t get moved in the hall. We were delighted to see a lot of new entrants, which is very encouraging.”
The show was also a very special moment for Mamie and her husband Jack as they stepped down as show secretaries, roles they had held for 24 years, which included shepherding the event through the stormy waters of the Covid pandemic. There was a special presentation to the couple at the end of the show to honour their almost quarter of a century commitment.
