Running around my neighborhood this summer has made me notice the serious lack of shade on most streets. I don’t have much room on my lot, but I’d like to potentially plant some sidewalk trees in the hell strip by my side fence. Would love to hear your tree recommendations for that and see any inspo pics of your sidewalk trees!

Just be prepared for the city to be able to cut them down at any time they want without your consent if they are in a utility easement

To preserve your sidewalks, don’t plant anything that’s going to get huge with disruptive roots. No sycamore, no shumard or live oak. I’d aim for tasteful smaller things that flower. TX mountain laurel. Arroyo sweetwood. Desert Willow.

No overhead utilities/powerlines? Plant a shade tree.
