Hang out with us for a real garden day—Jerry (aka CameraGuy) almost took out my passion fruit vine (see how we saved it!), the rats struck again, but somehow we still harvested plenty for the best homemade pizza straight from the vines to the wood fired pizza oven.
That’s the heart of UnCut—the real everyday moments of garden life, the ones that make us laugh, shake our heads, and remind us why fresh food from our own garden is always worth it.

  1. What’s your biggest garden “oops” we’d love to hear your story! -CaliKim🌻 & CameraGuy🎥

  2. Oh my gosh, Kim what a beautiful harvest!!! It’s no wonder the rats have found a home in your garden. It’s a smorgasbord!!! 😆😆😆Liz

  3. Wow….that gives new meaning to cutting into the pizza! This was a fun video! So the exact same thing happened to my passion, vine. It just kept turning brown. Then when I checked the base, it was completely rotted out of the ground. I think I gave it too much water and it rotted. Lift the base of your plant up a little bit and see if that happened to you. 🤔Liz

  4. I am thinking scale is your issue as well. I know time has passed since you shot this vid – BUT, hopefully by now you have identified the issue and have steps for a solution. Sorry, but I have to say – i also now have the creepy-crawlies. Blech! 🙃 Hope you can save your passion fruit. Oh – my oops? Too many to count.

  5. Love the passion flowers ours just blossomed. They are so unique and pretty had to get a couple pics before it disappeared.

  6. Pizzas looked yummy! Yum 😋 Lovely harvest. Bummer about the passion fruit tree. Hopefully it will come back and the Take Down will work. Yes, please keep us posted what Clayton has to say? Wow. 😮

  7. Oh no! Not a repeat of the Bean—Trellis-Apocalypse of several years ago! ;0) (when some old beans or other vining crop accidentally got cut back). Thankfully it all grows back. :0)

You all are the best! Love that you always keep it real.

    Kim

  8. I have had the same problem this year. I think mine are moles and or voles. They ate my bean plants right off, so no beans this year. Do you have a battle plan for the rats?

  9. Hey guys I heard you can take a pic of it and then scan it you can find out what that gross thing is. Awe CG it wasn’t your pruning 🤙🏽Love when u guys prune and work in ur garden. Action!!

  10. Passion fruit vines don’t live forever. Only a few years. Mine has a lot of brown on the stems and I’ve decided to cut the brown back and see how it goes this spring summer in Australia and if it grows average I’m going to get it out and start again. The scale looked like little barnacles..
you could try propagating the vine and replanting in the same spot. There is a girl called Holly that propagated her passion fruit vine and did a video on it she is in WA

  11. Cut the passion fruit back to near the ground. As long as it isn't infected with a disease it will grow back beautiful. New vines will come back from the roots.

  12. Dear Kim & CG, The pizza.oven looks great! Interesting I have a simple half barrel charcoal Walmart clearance grill but some friends are interested in pizza! I'm a practicing Catholic I say confessions. Passionfruit vines get invasive in CA. We have ant invasion up here in the 831 this year also! See the green vs. brown. CG: You are throughly absolved of the said indiscretion. Go forth & garden! 😅

  13. Had this happen to my passion fruit after trimming it back as well, its completely dead now. Thing was massive while it was alive. I had those little scales as well on mine, so I think yours unfortunately might be on the way out through no fault of Jerry's 🙁 Doing some research I also saw someone say that ants feast on the stuff those barnacles secrete and when I dug around my vine one time a TON of ants were in the ground near it. More than I'd ever seen in one place.

  14. Sent a pic through Google Lens. Results confirmed barnacle scale.

Gardening and Google Lens go together like peas and carrots😂😂.😂😂😂😂😂
