I just picked this up at Trader Joe's and it is my first non-phal. She has a wonderful strong pepper fragrance that convinced me to make the leap. I'm a bit confused about the difference between miltonia and oncidiums and could really use some help with identification.

This is definitely oncidium intergeneric. Miltonia or miltoniopsis has thinner leaves, lighter green color, smaller pseudobulbs, and pansy looking flowers.

Oncidium intergeneric or Cambria or Colmanara . They had so many names…. Can’t keep up with the changes. You can treat it as an Oncidium: medium light, let it almost dry between waterings and fertilize with a weak dose often. They are prone to rot if water gets trapped in between the leaves and bulb, so maybe give it a spot with a light breeze or be extra careful with watering.

It’s too bad it doesn’t have a name tag included with your plant. It’s definitely an oncidium intergeneric hybrid in the line of an Aliceara aka: Beallara or possibly a Bratonia. What might make it difficult to identify as it could be a clone that has been cloned extensively and the flower color/characteristics have mutated as many have in that process. You can try and contact the American Orchid Society(aos.org) as they have extensive resources to help you with. Good luck!

Aliceara Tahoma Glacier is a likely suspect, or one of the newer hybrids bred from it. Color and pattern can vary based on the conditions that the buds developed in so it can be hard to pin down an ID with 100% confidence. The pepper smell comes from Brassia verrucosa in its ancestry.
