Paul Shirley Smith, a director at Camlins, is celebrating the landscape architecture practice’s transition to employee ownership while raising money for Parksion’s UK by cycling 1,500 miles.
A month-long journey, Smith will embark from his home in mid-Wales before cycling to 100 Camlins projects across Ireland, the north-east, midlands and London before returning to the west country, south Wales and Shrewsbury which is home to Camlins’ studio since 2020.
“This year marks a huge milestone for us,” says Smith, adding, “Camlins is now 100% employee-owned and this journey is about marking that moment in a way that feels true to our values”.
The 100 Places project is also raising money for Parkinson’s UK, a charity close to Smith’s heart since losing his stepfather to the condition last year.
Camlins became employee-owned in October 2024, which has given the team of landscape architects, designers and technicians collective ownership of the business.
Supported by a supplier and collaborator of Camlins, Hardscape has provided materials to numerous of the projects on Smith’s route.
