We were told that this is called "Crown of Thorns". I'm dipping into this subreddit to get it correctly identified. More importantly, though, is to find out if the plant is okay. It's almost a foot tall and wider than that, but it looks so…. spindly

That plant is Euphorbia milii, aka Crown of Thorns. Not sure where you found E. aeurginosa using that common name
It is something, unclear. Most likely E. milii, but the E. milii group is large, unclear what specific species this would be in its current condition.
