For a long period it looked as though the Citizens would exit in the preliminary round, trailing 2-0 at home to Waltham Abbey 10 minutes into the second-half.
But a late revival, improved by second-half changes made by manager Marc Weatherstone pepped up WGC for the latter stages to tie the scores at 2-2 at the final whistle.
Debutant goalkeeper Michael Zeitzen, recently released by Championship Stoke City, was beaten in 10 minutes and he had to make two outstanding stops to prevent falling further behind late in the first-half.
It looked curtains for WGC 10 minutes after the interval, Nathan Koranteng cutting in and driving home through a crowd of players.
But the Citizens kept plugging away and got their reward when a quickly taken free-kick from Tom Bruno found substitute Eddie Corbit.
He slipped a neat pass through to Bailey Stevenson and the newly returned WGC forward hit a precise shot to make it 2-1.
And with time running out, Steve Cawley created the equaliser on 86 minutes, his clever, sideways pass finding Taaffe who cut inside and also drove his effort powerfully into the net.
The winner of the replay will play away to Haverhill Rovers in the first qualifying round.
