Was hoping someone could give me some advice on what height would be best to cut my grass before overseeding next month.

The lawn mower I have had 3 heights 30mm 48mm & 66mm. I’ve been currently cutting it at 66mm as it’s a new lawn this year and actually like it on the longer side.

Worried about taking it right down to 30mm as it’s never been cut that low before and only used 48mm while it was still growing out.

Should I be worried? Is it better taking it right down before overseeding or would 48mm be an okay height??

Photos above is it at a 66mm cut

I was told it needs to be cut the lowest the lawn mower will go before overseeding and aeration.

Where are you located and or what species turf do you have and what are you seeding with? Practices need to vary depending on if youre in a transition zone or not

What is your seeding method? I wouldn’t recommend just broadcasting it but if that’s what you’re doing it won’t matter.

If you’re slit seeding, 3 inches is fine. If you’re aerating and seeding up to 4 is probably fine.

There’s usually no reason to ever go below 3 for any reason.

Cut low before an overseed. You don’t mention your grass type. A single scalp won’t hurt it, but 30mm might be too short for tall fescue.
