My neighbor converted his garage to a man cave and unfortunately his garage is right at the property line. I’ve got a pretty private back yard but he put a bar right by this window, positioned so every patron is lined up straight back from the window. every weekend my backyard is like a gallery for him and his extended family and bros. It’s awkward af even mowing the lawn with 10+ people staring at me. The AC is in the window right now but it’s not there 99% of the time.

I have 4 huge mature spruce trees blocking most of the sunlight. I was thinking some type of trellis but anything I can think of will look awkward.

L shape 8ft Trellis, get a climbing plant that isn’t invasive and can handle the shade, also something green year round (idk where you live)

    Just do 3 10ft (PT) 4 X 4s vertical (2ft deep in concrete)
    Hod fencing, paint it black
Then trump out with 2×4 & 2×2 and strain it.

L shape so he can have access on one side if he needs to mess with the A/C or side of the building in the future.

  2. Small shed or solid back gazebo would block it.

    1. Talk to your neighbor. Ask him to frost it. Hell, you could even buy him the cheap and easy to install stuff.
    2. Plant any tree or shrub directly in front of it that has foliage at that level. The options are nearly limitless.
    3. Appreciate that it’s a tiny window and nobody gives two shits what you are doing in your backyard unless it’s super odd or sexy. They are focused on what is happening in the “man cave.”

An 8×4 sheet of plywood, cut into a shape of a tree, or any other shape you like, put a post in the ground and fix too it. If you choose a tree shape, paint it a green colour. Or an artificial Christmas tree.

Contact the city to ensure there isn’t a required easement. I’d build an arch or something so growing vines can grow.

A free standing screen structure, possibly with a slanted slats.

Is that garage actually in the property line?

  7. Rhododendron, but you’ll have to wait a few seasons before it’s tall enough to be blocking the window. Maybe a screen in the meantime?

I thought it was against like every city ordinance like everywhere to have a building exactly on the property line?

Put a wire from tree to tree and hang whatever you like from it to block the view. Maybe a couple of flags

Couple post or 2×4 hang shade cloth like a shower curtain. If he ask tell him it’s privacy for both you.

Put 2 posts in the ground and a shade cloth or little curtain. Super easy compared to some of these suggestions.

Just stop your wife from going into the yard naked all the time for christ sakes. Ya got any pics??

A life size cutout of Billy Ray Cyrus with his iconic big hair, duh

  14. Uhhh, go make friends with your neighbors and go to his backyard adjacent bar. Make lemonade out of lemons. Once you know everybody, sorry bros, I gotta go mow. No awkwardness, and now you got a buzz, and that mows gonna be that much sweeter.

I would plant a tree in front of it

  16. That looks illegal as fuck. You have a right to privacy & this window is all about them.

If they wanted light he could have put in a skylight – if they wanted a view they should have bought a different house.
