Bought a home about 18 months ago, and this wonderful fiddle-leaf fig was left by the prior owner. It’s grown at least 1.5 feet since, sitting at about 12’ now. It’s started to run in the ceiling and I’m wondering if it’s safe (or even a good idea) to trim the top?

  1. his mission in life is to get to the sun LOL

  2. The plant will be fine if you cut her. Be careful climbing up. I would probably take at least enough to shorten to the bottom of those top windows, but you can even take more if you want.

Prop the top and now you have 2 fiddle leaf figs!

I bought a dinky fiddle leaf a year ago and it’s now 18″ tall and I’m so proud! What have I gotten myself into?!

I live in zone 8a and I put my fig in the ground outside a row of other trees. This picture just verified my decision. My daughter checks on her all the time

  7. I don’t understand how it’s not tipping over lol 🙃🫣

It appears to be inspired by Snuffaluffagus! Beautiful and yes, you can chop, just be careful of the sap as it can be a skin irritant.

Only thing to do is open the window, let it have the freedom it craves! 😂

Ugh jealous. If I could afford a house I would have so many large plants.

He’s a hefty boy. Love his determination to get to the window

What kind of witchcraft is this and how do I join?

How?? How do you accomplish this? My FLF has been ranging from growing like mad to actively trying to die for years. It’s sorta just a sad stick with a few big leaves on it about 6 feet tall.

Impressive!! I didn’t know they could do that

WOW! This is the happiest FLF I’ve seen. Congratulations for all the prayers and good deeds in your life!

I have not grown this plant but I see it on a lot of plant threads. Usually, people are struggling with it.

I dunno, thing is pretty gorgeous. Why stop just cos you hit the ceiling? Looks like there are plenty of directions to go in. Why not see where this giant caterpillar wants to go?

It’s your home though. Chop the thing down if it makes you happy. It would look lovely as a shorter plant as well.

I have never done so but is there a thread, here or otherwise where you can let peeps know you’re chopping this down and throwing the detritus at a street corner so they can have at it if they want? Ha! I know, sounds silly. I just know based on “thread count” that a LOT of people drool for this plant.
