My front yard is fully xeriscaped. But my backyard I’ve mostly neglected.
Recently added a flagstone walkway and gravel pit. I have Adirondack chairs and a fire pit (not shown) for the gravel pit.
Most of the rest of the yard is decking, but I’m not sure what to do with what I have here.
Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated, thank you! Zone 8b/9a central Texas.

(Edible) Plants, just throw in all the natives and see what flourishes.
A wildlife pond (no fish) would also be really cool.
Following. Also in central Texas and thinking of doing exactly this. We have been wanting to do mostly compacted dirt with flower beds.
Native plants. Sheet mulch and start by planning a good sized shrub where you’d like to block view of somebody’s house. If there’s space add a small tree to south or west of the deck or a window that gets hot. I’d add shrubs between deck and firepit so it’s a destination and place a birdbath somewhere it can be seen from window, deck and/or firepit. Here’s a list of plants to consider.
