Welcome all. Thanks for joining the vlog. So today we’re in the back garden and as you can see we’ve got tired looking lawn here. It’s got a big patch. It’s been neglected through the winter with no grass growing. And as for the rest, we just got weeds and whatnot coming through. [Music] And it’s similar story wherever you look. Can see here that we have got a fig tree growing. So that’s starting to come through. So that’s something to look forward to in the coming weeks. But at the moment, what we’re paying attention to is these bare patches of grass here and just the overall state of this neglected garden. So, obviously, the weather’s been pretty good. So, I’m taking more breaks while working from home, trying to get some vitamin D, and yeah, just regular breaks just helps me, especially when you got the sun shining and a bit of fresh air. So, the plan is to get this looking thicker, greener, and healthier. Basically, trying to breathe some life back into it. So, as you can see at the minute, there is just stones and whatnot, weeds coming through. It’s just not healthy soil. So, going to try this for the first time. The plan is basically to just clear that area up so there’s no stones. I’m going to chuck some compass down just so that the condition of the soil improves and then eventually put some seeds down. Sew those and uh quilt it over with uh some more compost. Haven’t actually got any top soil, but top soil will be the ideal thing to get hold of. But seen plenty of videos online suggesting that compost will do the job. And like I said, cuz we’ve got so many stones, the condition of the soil isn’t just as healthy as it could be. So, I’m going to start off with that and see what happens. Right, guys? So, what is my motivation for doing this project? Why have I suddenly decided as a husband and dad to a two-year-old um decided to basically get into a bit of gardening like how did that come about? Um but I guess there a couple of reasons why and I just wanted to talk about it. So the first reason sort of goes back to the end of last summer. So that’s when the little one was um helping me just to water some of the flowers in the front garden. So he seemed to enjoy it. So we basically got a little watering can make that up for him and um yeah thought let’s see you know if he takes the responsibility then you know we’ll make a bit of a regular thing and yeah he seems to enjoy it. So for me I thought let’s uh let’s pursue that a bit more. So as that was the end of last summer I thought let’s see where we get to um this summer. like why not set ourselves some goals and basically do a bit of a bit of work in the back garden and just yeah give it some TLC like I am doing at the moment just trying to restore it to looking a bit you know presentable I guess um and yeah the second reason is um just yeah as I mentioned it’s it’s good weather and you just want to be outside and um yeah got the luxury of working from home most of the time so it’s nice to out in the out in the back garden just taking a break, getting a bit of fresh air and whatnot. Um, so yeah, I thought um thought it’d be worth mentioning why I want to get into this. Uh, so yeah, those are my reasons. Um, think it’ll be good for mental health and whatnot as well. So yeah, let’s see how it works out. Right, so I’ve just got some compost in. Now, the plan is to get some grass seed and get this into the ground. Do as much as I can. And um once that’s done, I think I’m going to just rake them in and do another layer of compost just to quilt over the seeds. And then yeah, keep them nice and moist, get the ground level and water them regularly for a few weeks. See how that goes. And hopefully you get this tired looking lawn looking a bit more green and thick and healthy. That’s the goal. This is an attempt from a complete novice. So, let’s see how it goes. And yeah, time to get the time to get the seeds in. Right, here we are. Seeds are in now. Just going to call them over. See how we can get that looking once we’ve quarted it, watered it, and just uh do that regularly, I guess. So, yeah. Excited to see how this turns out because like I said, completely obvious doing this. Don’t know if that’s enough seeds to be honest. Gives you instructions on the pack, but I’ve kind of just winged it. Um, but yeah, see where we end up in a few weeks time. But yeah, let me get some more compost over this so that this doesn’t end up disappearing as bird feed or whatnot. Trying to get that into the soil. So yeah, that’s the plan. Get it covered, get it watered, and then keep that up as regularly as possible. Ideally daily, I suppose, as the weather is looking good. Yeah, hopefully we can get this looking thick and green. But yeah, let’s see where we end up. Right, then I have quilted over the patches with some compost. So, I’ve done that here at the front of the garden as well as the other patch in the back of the garden. Now, the plan is going to be to water both of these patches on a regular basis. So, I’m going to be aiming to do that at least uh once, possibly twice a day and see where that gets me to. Hopefully, after a week or two, we start to see the seeds begin to grow. So if you want to uh see how this progresses, please do give the video a like and subscribe along to the journey as well. Thanks for watching.
