After losing nearly all of my miniatures, I am very hesitant. Who am I kidding? I’m deathly afraid of doing something wrong to this poor plant that looks like it has a bunch of suckers on it. Can anybody recommend suggestions as to what to do and how to do it?

  1. I know what you mean, but don’t worry your violet looks healthy and you’ll be able to separate the suckers. I also had anxiety before because I didn’t know what I was getting into but I’ve been following Gray Turtle and learned a lot. This tutorial from her is very helpful https://youtu.be/woHaCMjRuA8?feature=shared

I’m newish to sucker removal so let me give you my recent experience.

I had read that it’s similar to breaking apart broccoli pieces. Just gentler lol

I had a plant recently that I started from one leaf and it didn’t grow any regular crowns. Just a mass number of sucker crowns. So I gently stuck a butter knife down the side of my pot and plopped it on the kitchen counter.

I could see much easier under neath and was able to gently wiggle some sections apart.

If you do have a small crown in there you don’t want to get the leaves too far under soil so if you can, break off a couple so you have a ‘stem’ on the main part you can stick in the soil.

In your case you may not have a full crown developing. I have a similar one and I’ll just have to see what it looks like when I dig it out. It also may not hurt to wait till it’s a little bigger.

The absolute worse case scenario is it all falls apart but… you have plenty of leaves to keep trying with. You’ll do fine. Yes it’s kinda scary but it gets easier. I promise.
