The corn on the top is from a local grower in my area and the corn on the bottom is what I grew in my backyard. Is my corn just not ready yet, or is the generally how naturally grown sweet corn looks?

    Yours is perfect the top is overripe and will have less crispness and a more starchy texture while being less sweet.

    It looks like they’re two different varieties, and both seem ripe to me. Corn comes in all sorts of colors, and yellow and white are the most common for sweet corn. It’s also not unusual for different types to be shaped differently.

    If you’re not sure, you can test for ripeness by pressing your thumb against a kernel. If a little milky liquid comes out, it’s ripe. There are a few other ways to tell, including some that you can check before you pick, like the silk turning brown.
