‘Plants Always Win is a podcast where two Ontario gardeners dive down plant-fact rabbit holes, answer audience questions, interview intriguing guests,’ host Alladin said
Whether you’re an avid gardener or a novice testing your green thumb, one certainty becomes clear — plants always win.
Plants Always Win is the name of Sean Patchett’s and Erin Alladin’s podcast, which was launched in December of 2024 and is about to celebrate it’s 30th episode. Patchett, known online as GardenGuyMuskoka, is a professional gardener, horticultural technician, and a member of the Master Gardeners of Ontario.
Alladin is a writer and editor and a member of Garden Communicators International. She now calls Parry Sound home, but Alladin grew up in North Bay. BayToday wrote about her nature-focused children’s book, Wait Like a Seed earlier this past April.

The podcast is designed to educate gardeners and often features interviews with experts in horticulture. Alladin said, “Plants Always Win is a podcast where two Ontario gardeners dive down plant-fact rabbit holes, answer audience questions, interview intriguing guests and compete to bring you the most interesting stories and information.”
Alladin added, “We get to the root of garden myths, to bring nuance to thorny issues, and to support Ontarians with evergreen regional advice.”
Together, the hosts discuss the importance of native species and offer practical advice to improve your own gardens. The podcast also has some recurring features, like What’s Growing On, which offers a glimpse into the hosts’ personal gardens, and the Plant Face-Off, where each host competes to bring the most fascinating stats about a certain plant of gardening subject.
“We care about ecologically sound gardening, strong human communities, and up-to-date science,” Alladin said. “Plants Always Win fills the information gap for curious and ecologically conscious home gardeners in Ontario.”
The Plants Always Win podcast can be found on all major platforms including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and more. It can also be listened to at the podcast’s website, PlantsAlwaysWin.com.
