Zone 4b Iowa. I pollinated the flower June 29. The variety is Atlantic Giant and the seed is the Noel 2471.

  1. To address the most common questions, no they’re really no good to eat. They’re just for fun and competition. Hopefully this pumpkin will go to either the Bloomfield IA weigh off Sept. 27 or Anamosa Oct 4. If I can grow one over 1500 lbs, my sister will fly out to carve it. The last deal was if I hit 1,000 lbs, which I made in 2023. She carved it, and it was spectacular.

These plants are huge. If you’re growing for big only one fruit per plant and each plant can take 100 gal of water a day. I water directly out of a pond.

  2. There’s a weight calculator where you take three measurements (circumference, side to side, and end to end) and you can get a pretty accurate guess on the weight.

Holy Batman! Does your sister have to get in the pumpkin to clean it out? She does amazing work.
