Don, who recently turned 70, discussed future career plans with Gardener’s Magazine, explaining that he simply “won’t do any more” tours.
The Express reports that although Don has been travelling for work this year, he’ll be pulling the plug on the talks later this year.
“In April I started filming a new travel series going from the source of the Rhine to the sea,” he told The Garden Magazine. “visiting gardens in Italy, Switzerland, Luxembourg, Germany, Holland and France.”
He added: “I’ve got a couple of gardens that I’m working on for charity and have more talks to do. That will take me through until November. I’ve decided I won’t do any more tours after that.”
The celebrity gardener, who lives at Longmeadow in Herefordshire, where Gardener’s World is filmed, previously told fans that he would not continue to do live shows for a couple of years.
Don had been performing shows for An Audience with Monty Don since November, however, he was forced to pull the plug on some of the events later that month after being rushed to A&E.
In the video, he can be seen with his beloved dog Ned as he says: “Hello. I am sorry to have disappointed all those people who were going to come and see me. But I was rushed to A&E. I was kept in at hospital and had to have drips and all the rest of it.”
He didn’t disclose why he was hospitalised, but his tour was soon back in full swing.
Sadly, Don later revealed that due to “existing commitments”, he would not be participating in any live shows for the next couple of years.
Speaking on his Gardner’s World future in 2023, Don admitted that he “won’t do it forever”, and his departure would depend on circumstances and what else he was doing.
Don has presented a number of other TV series including The Secret History Of The British Garden, Monty Don’s Paradise Gardens and Monty Don’s Japanese Gardens.
