I live near Denver, CO. I'm fighting a losing battle with my lawn. These yellow patches of dead grass keep popping up and expanding. I have a dog but it's not clear to me that the dog pees in all of these places. She does use some of these areas.

I tried putting down some anti-fungal spray and pellets but that didn't make a big difference. I've been in the cycle of putting down seeds (fescue, rye and I previously tried bluegrass but not recently) on the patches and then watering daily for a couple of weeks. But, now I have shifted to watering for longer (30 min) about 3x per week.

The weather is hot, dry and sunny here on most days. The lawn has been progresively more patchy during the course of the summer.

Any advice or tips would be appreciated.

Looks a lot like dog pee. I have an 80 pound female lab that has favorite parts of the grass to pee in. Leaves spots like this if I don’t water the grass twice a day.

At least she just shits on my paver patio. /s

They sell the water bowl stones for pets supposedly neutralizes pet urine. Check Chewy.com

  3. Female dogs can make spots like this, but generally the grass around the kill is super green and I’m not seeing that. Also, the areas that have been affected longest have total loss. That tells me that it’s not (all) dog piss.
It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but I think I see some greying areas. My guess is Dollar Spot fungus. You’re going to have to get up early in the morning to look for the real clues – mycelium, spores, etc.
You can apply fungicides, but if you’re not doing it correctly, you’re only hurting your lawn, but you’re hurting our turf as well. Turf/plant fungi build tolerance and resistance the way human pathogens build resistance to antibiotics.
Here’s a helpful link to help you identify the culprit(s).

Once you identify the problem, ONLY THEN can you use the appropriate category and amount of funcicide!

Every-time your dog goes out, you go out to. Water the area with hose.

But remember how much those babies add to your life, and just roll with it!

“I have dogs and my lawn looks like dogs are pissing on it but it couldn’t be that because my dogs are male. Yeah that looks like female dogs displacement pattern. Well actually for some reason my male dogs squat and pee like females. Oh yeah it’s probably a fungus”.

We get what we deserve folks.
