I’ve seen plenty in this sub using it to great results. I use the patching version of it with success each year.
Murky-Gate7795
I’ve used it the last 2 years and it’s awesome. Noticeably better results than Scott’s or Pennington.
pooorSAP
Better or as good as Twin City?
Fins1313
i’ve used the TTTF version, very good seed and good results. use it with scott’s triple action built for seeding and u shld have success. if u want premium seed, check out Twin City Seed.
baile508
Overpriced and subpar compared to any thing from twin cities seed.
brownsfan250
Its pretty good.

Cosign most/all the comments here. I’ve used it for the last few years with decent results. Not bad seed whatsoever. But when I planned my big lawn rehab this year, I bought Twin City Seed. Can’t say that I’ve used it yet, but the evangelists all around have me excited to see how it performs.

I did my entire lawn with this. Results came in great. This was a brand new home and lawn. I think fixing bear spots it’s fine. I’m overseeing this fall with twin city and will likely use them going forward as there’s no filler. If I were to go back in time. I’d use twin city. But I think for being able to grab a bag at a store to fill some spots. This is a great option.

I like Jonathan Green seeds because they offer seed without those snake oil coatings that do little but replace seed in the bag with the weight of the coating. Some are just corn starch.
If you read the tag you can see how much coating is added–I have seen coatings up to 50% of the weight of the bag.
rsnakejake18
Work well with St. Augustine? It’s taking a beating in this Texas summer heat.
United-War4561
In Maine tried Ultra for overseeding 2 years ago and Sunny last year. I.am switched away from the kvg fescue rye mixes this year. Ordered 45lb ttttf from GCI for $157 including shipping. Ultra 50lv bag is over $200. I am tired of what I suspect is the rye going dormant event new england summer. Trying more heat and drought tolerant grasses see how it works out.
ElonTaco
Yes, it’s good as long as you water it correctly.
Tiny-Dragonfruit8133
It’s some of the best seed you can buy off the shelf but It does have some weed seeds in it. Personally, I would buy blue tag certified seed online. It’s about the same price as Jonathan green, no weed seeds, and better genetics.
G19-3
Yes, using it again this fall because the results last year were great. Zone 6a
Ricka77_New
It was once pretty good, but past few years has seen lot of bad weed seeds in the mix.
Twin City Resilience II would be a good option for your area…
SamsaraSlider
I used it in Virginia. It looks great, comes in nicely, and was highly recommended by a friend in PA, but I think the KBB part doesn’t do well in my steep, hot backyard in the summer, so I’ve switched to just TTTF. In NY you’d probably have better results.
Historical_Leg_9020
It’s okay quality but not worth the price
DigBickEnergy86
I used BB for 4 seasons but I’m switching to 4th Millennium SRP this season. The BB looks amazing in the spring and fall and I view it as beginner level install. Problem is that (for me) the B didn’t handle the in-between well. Between the kids and spontaneous weather here in New England, it just didn’t handle summers well. Always came back but every late July and August it just started to turn into patchy sickly looking yuck. Guy two doors down is a landscaper and when I showed him the bag, he said the mix wasn’t good for my lawns complete sun cycle. Back yard too much sun with shady areas, front yard too much sun and slopes. He said TTTF and the SRP should at least give me uniform results so fingers crossed!
the_0rly_factor
Its ok but United Super Turf 2 is a lot better and around the same price I believe.
GlassBudget3138
I’ve used this to see quite a large area and it looks incredible. The grass isn’t the softest. But it goes better and darker than the rest of my lawn. I’m getting it again to overseed this fall.
j1308s
Zone 7b so far from you but I’ve got it in my front yard. It phoenomenal in spring and fall (akin to a New York summer I’d guess). Go for it. It’s lush!
myjunksonfire
This was my first year using it. It cost a lot of money and I’ve seen no better results than the Scott’s I’ve used every year before. I actually have more weeds than I’ve ever had. Not saying it’s because if this, but I’m just sayin…
I probably won’t use it again next year
BDM-843
I used barenbrug seed for 3 years on my lawn and it by far and way was the best lawn in the neighborhood.
mrwarnermd
I’ve been using this for 5 years now. Insanely thick, deep dark green. I aerate on Labor Day weekend and put this down with starter fertilizer. My lawn stays green the whole winter, well relative to everyone else’s.
I’m also cutting up until Christmas.
treyl85
I tried her once… but once wasn’t enough.
greenjm7
I had shit luck with this. My yard ended up with poa when I never had poa before.
kbeast98
Ive used past 4 or 5 years. I like it. Tends to introduce weeds but really nice green up.
EcoRI_digest
Overseeded with Black Beauty Ultra for the last two years.
Germinates very well and comes in looking beautiful. Nice plush deep green. Then the next summer the heat comes in and kills off most of it. Zone 7a but summer high temps here nearly 100F.
Going to try TC Seed’s Tuff Turf this fall and see how it holds up through next summer.
MustardTiger231
Just bought a home with a semi decent established yard, I’m core aerating sep 8th and then over seeding with this exact seed.
black_zack
I tried this in my backyard with good success. My backyard is south facing and gets full sun. I did bare soil one year in part of the yard and the following year thatched and over seeded. I would say it’s fairly good against drought. I do deal with a lot of red thread in the spring time however.
I redid my front yard last year; killed it all with round up, leveled and seeded with Ryan Knorrs elite bluegrass/TTTF mix and I would say it did really well this year with the lack of rain. My neighbor did comment and say mine looks green despite me not watering. I have a post on it with pictures from last year. However, I did start watering to just prep for fall over seed. It honestly feels better, thicker, greener and had little to no fungus. It’s a little more expensive but it definitely is worth it.
I still have been mowing both weekly this year even with no rain this summer with only getting 3-4 inches all July and August thus far.
I live in the SW PA area.

This is what we use and it’s great. I know everyone raves about Twin City Seed on here, but we used that the first year and maybe it was just the kind we got but it was super disappointing. We did black beauty the following year and it came in so fast and solid and easy, and we’ve been using it ever since.
Gneissbrian
I used it at our old house and love it. Just moved into our new house 4 months ago (sodded lawn) but planning on using Jonathan’s BB again for overseeding this fall
