This weird flower I found that looks like somebody removed all the petals.

Tansy flower. This is just how they grow and look. 🙂

  2. Tansy. It’s considered invasive in some locations.

A good amount of things in this family (asteraceae) have no rays like this and I think it’s the cutest thing! Love a flower that’s all middle. I also love flowers that naturally have just one or two rays, they look broken lol

Tansy…just rub your hands along the leaves and sniff! love it…not an invasive where i live.

I picked sooooo much tansy out of my grandpa’s cow pastures as a kid. Never ending!

  6. If you get a hand lens or magnifying glass and take a close look, you’ll see that the flower heads are collections of multiple miniature flowers (with petals fused into a tube) all on a big flat base called a capitulum.

I dry them and put them in the windows. It’s said that spiders and other’s insekts don’t like the smell

Others have identified this already but I gotta share the journey this took me on.

I was going to say that in Finland, we call this “voinappi”, which means butter button.
I wanted to be sure tho and googled it, and found that name absolutely nowhere, at least connected to this flower.
Found out that my grandma called them “button flowers” so I probably got that from there.

So I nearly told you a lie because my family calls this flower a name that isn’t actually its name at all (and my own version of that apparently) and I always thought that that was what everyone calls them!

Tansy is actually pietaryrtti in Finnish.

Oh oh!!! I’m a nerd for plant symbolism and tansy has a very unique one– “I declare war on you.” Always happy to see this interesting and lovely flower!!! 🙂

Tansy is cute, but please keep an eye on them as they reseed. I had one plant last year, and this year, I have 100’s…. I’m not complaining because they make nice filler flowers in arrangements, but I’m definitely going to thin them out next year.
