A few weeks ago my neighbor gifted me this. He only speaks Vietnamese and would simply motion rolling it up and saying “for BBQ”. Tried using google translate but it suck’s picking up his voice to translate. Any idea what I have?
if you break up a small piece of a leaf, you should smell a strong minty/basil/refreshing type of aroma.
yes, it is very popular in southeast Asia country, used in various cuisines.
I found this type (green) in the country side of TN, all over the place

I think that’s the leaf that you put barbecued meat on and pickles and you eat it and one bite

Spearmint? Does if smell like mint?

This looks to be a variety of mint. Great for tea additives. I love how it smells. Also great at keeping pests at bay on windowsill and in cracks, at doorsteps. Google it! 😊

Looks like hydrangea to me. It will be a beautiful flowering shrub.

Thai basil maybe. I think shiso leaves are shaped differently

This is definitely korean perilla. Sister variant of japanese shiso, but perilla is bit rougher and more minty. Its seeds are used to make sesame oil. You can make side dishes or use as veggie wrap for bbq.
