Hey, I am new to succulents and I wanna learn a little bit more what kind of succulents are these? And what can I do to make them thrive in a dorm setting I’d love to see the bigger one grow! Thanks can’t wait

Hi! It seems like you may be new to succulents. If so, we recommend taking a moment to read the [Beginner Basics](https://www.reddit.com/r/succulents/wiki/beginner-basics) wiki and the [FAQ](https://www.reddit.com/r/succulents/wiki/faq) to get up to speed on succulent care and find answers to common questions.

Looking for care information on Lithops or Split Rocks? Check out [their care guide here](https://www.reddit.com/r/succulents/wiki/mesembs_care_guides/).

If you are asking for help, please make sure you adhere to the [Posting Guidelines](https://www.reddit.com/r/succulents/wiki/posting-guidelines); we need a detailed **description**, an explanation of the **environment**, such as sun exposure, soil and watering, and a bit of a **history** to help us make an assessment! And, remember *pictures help a LOT!*

The sidebar (community info on mobile) and search function are also fantastic resources. If you’ve already done all that, then kudos!

A dorm setting? do you mean in an apartment?

The left one is an echiveria. I thought the right one was a cactus (apparently I’m wrong). They’re both probably too big for their pots. If you repot them, use 50% cactus or succulent soil and 50% perlite. They need to be in a pot with a hole in the bottom.

They need to be directly in front of a west or south window or you need a grow light.
