At The Gardens at Unity Village, they grow more than just food—they grow community. As proud members of the Kansas City Community Garden (KCCG) network, they cultivate enough fresh, healthy produce not only to support our market but also to give back. Over the past three years, Gardens’ volunteers have donated more than 6,000 pounds of fruits and vegetables to local food banks in Lee’s Summit, helping nourish neighbors in need.

Operated entirely by dedicated volunteers, The Gardens is a local nonprofit organization sustained through generous donations and proceeds from a seasonal Produce Market, held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to noon. Every purchase and contribution directly supports their mission of growing food, fostering community, and sharing the harvest.

Carter Oberheu, Community Garden Specialist at Kansas City Community Gardens (KCCG) and Mark Martin, Manager at The Gardens at Unity Village discuss growing options in annual site visit

Being one of the 327 area Community Partner Gardens with KCCG, they receive many benefits including technical assistance like the recent site visit pictured above, as well having options of lower cost resources like seeds and garden supplies. Hats off to KCCG for all they do for the Kansas City community.

Whether you’re shopping at the Saturday market, volunteering in the garden , or simply spreading the word, your support makes a real difference. Together with partners at KCCG and a generous community, The Gardens at Unity Village is cultivating a space where people connect, grow, and give back. You are invited to join them in this ongoing journey—because when a garden thrives, so does the community around it.
