Gardeners of all ages in Carlisle are being invited to get their hands dirty and learn new skills at two free workshops hosted by Dobbies Garden Centre this September.
The store will run its Little Seedlings Club and Grow How sessions, aimed at inspiring both children and adults to make the most of the autumn gardening season.
The Little Seedlings Club, titled Incredible Orchards, takes place on Sunday, September 7 and is tailored for children aged four–10.

The interactive session will also include an apple tree craft activity.
For adults, the Grow How workshops, Mow & Grow, will run on Wednesday, September 3 and Saturday, September 6 at 10.30am and 3.30pm.
The half-hour sessions will focus on lawn care and seasonal planting, with live demonstrations and a Q&A led by a member of Dobbies’ Green Team.

Visitors will also be shown how to create a “bulb lasagne”, a layered planting technique that produces flowers from late autumn through to spring 2026.
Dobbies’ Plant Buyer, Nigel Lawton, said autumn was an ideal time to prepare gardens for the year ahead.
“Autumn is a great time of year in the gardening calendar and our free-to-attend workshops at the Carlisle store showcase just how accessible and fun this hobby is,” he said.
“Those attending our Little Seedlings Club will discover the wonders of an orchard, and September’s Grow How session, Mow & Grow, will help give gardeners the confidence to get ahead of the season by preparing the garden for the cooler months while ensuring a colourful bloom right the way through to next year.”
Places for both workshops are free but should be booked in advance via the Dobbies website at www.dobbies.com/events.
