Home was built in the late '80s. My husband is worried that it will have roots under the home that will damage the foundation and either require removal or some major repairs down the road. It's also located in an area that's prone to hurricanes. It looks like they've had some tree limbs trimmed in the second pic, so I'm hoping that means that it's been well taken care of. What do you lovely tree friends think?

It’s definitely going to be an expense going forward. Beautiful but expensive

    Hurricane area?

Look, beautiful tree, but this is going to be a headache to the tune of thousands in maintained and persistent worry every time there’s gales. A professional in your area can give you direct guidance if you really want to take the plunge, but the description and pictures alone would lead me away from the situation. It is a magnificent tree, and it’s been around long enough to get that big, but those arms reaching over the home and the proximity to your foundation alone are big warnings.

Insurance might force you to cut it down

  4. The tree and the house have coexisted for 40 years.

Idk what I would do honestly.
