maybe this isn't the place for a post for this, pls lmk. i went through a very long depressive episode and this little part of the yard has gotten out of control. i'm overwhelmed and not sure how to go about getting this under control. I'm not even a garden-y person, i was just trying to keep this little part clear at my parents house. too broke to hire anyone so its just me lol.

I find that gardening and weeding is good for my mental health. You start chipping away at it and it has obvious results.
I’d just start hand pulling it out. Chip away at it, a little at a time. Get yourself a dandelion weeder to loosen the difficult roots and a stirrup hoe to maintain the bed when you’re done. You run the hoe back and forth over the little weeds that pop up and it takes no time at all, once it twice a week. I also like the Felco pruners for trimming shrubs. They’re $20-ish on Amazon, work well, and last forever. It looks like that’s shrubbery in the back? If you like it, just trim it into shape occasionally. If you don’t, dig them out and add something else.
Then when you’re done, I’d consider adding some more plants, even if it’s just more hostas, to fill in the space so it doesn’t get so weedy in the future. Nurseries have good sales this time of year.
Start with some sharp shears and cut back the vegetation from that AC condenser first otherwise it will kill that unit. Then get a hoe, shovel or rake and have at it.
Round up and a pump sprayer.
Pull the vines off the house. Pull weeds and use a sharpshooter shovel to dig the big weeds up and out. Plant some natives that have a good chance to survive. Go to a nursery and ask them what to plant. Pay attention to how much sun it gets and tell them. Lowe’s will have a nice Fiskers trimmer for $20.
You got this.
And I 100% agree with u/chigrll1098 that it will help your mental health and happiness in ways you didn’t expect.
do not go in with a weed wacker or metal blade with that ac condenser. bad times will be had.
I would get a good set of garden gloves, a pair of pruners, and a couple bins. Gloves really up my confidence in just pulling stuff out, personally. If there’s stuff you want to keep, start by pulling out things you know for sure are weeds. Looks like you have some hostas worth keeping at the very least. That vine looks like the biggest culprit here, dive in and start pulling and clipping. As for other stuff, of you have a really leggy plant that you want to keep, don’t be afraid to trim back overly long stems and anything hanging on the ground (not the hostas though). Maybe straighten out that stone border, and power wash the siding on the right.
This actually looks like a very good project for a day or weekend. Totally doable!
It you get to a spot where you’ve trimmed and cleaned up and aren’t sure where to go from there, just post a new set of pics. Personally, I love really overgrown beds and areas, because it’s hard to make them look worse!
Good ol fashion hard manual labor
Lawnmower
One rock at a time. Use a crowbar. Then cut those vines down. They can ruin a house.
Talk about zero maintenance. Start cutting. Geez
Make sure ground is well watered, then old fashioned elbow grease. Get those roots!
