Part three of making my dream cottage style pravel patio. Here are a couple inspo pics that I really love. I adore the mixed patterns and plants and all that good stuff. To get started, I outlined the space with a hose and spray paint. And then I went ahead dug up all the dirt because we needed to level this thing out. We used a tiller and then I was able to rake it all out to make it very level. If I didn’t do this, our patio would look very lopsided and just not too great. If you have a level area and you’re looking to do this, you can just skip that whole entire step, which would save a lot of time. Once I had the dirt leveled out where I wanted it, I rented this compactor from Home Depot. It made this step of compacting the dirt so much easier and saved so much time. The previous owners had owls still up, so I went ahead and took those out. And here’s how it was looking after all the compaction. Next, it was time to get all the field stones. I got about 50 stones at 19 cents per pound. So, for all the stones, it costed me just shy of $300. And at this point, I wasn’t sure if I was lining the back with stones or not. But before setting those down, I went ahead and laid down some fabric weed barrier. I got this one from Amazon actually. It was $25 for a 4ft by 100 foot roll. So that was a pretty great deal. Then I started lining the fieldstones and I really love the like scallop idea and kind of wavy edges. So that’s what I did along the sides. And then the back row I ended up going with a straight line in the back. I was debating a beam but I absolutely love the fieldstone look. I ended up putting some river rock on the back edge just because it does have a small decline and that’ll help the pee gravel from falling. And then I’ll also add mulch by the hydrangeas. Make sure to come back for part four because we’re adding the pearavevel.
