We found a cool shell at the beach today, and brought it home for our jarrarium. Well, it's alive. Which is cool and all, but what does it eat, and do I need to do anything special for it?
It looks like the backend of a frog. I just saw your description though, and I have no idea otherwise.

Looks like some kind of coquina clam. I’d imagine it would die eventually since it’s from a saltwater environment. I used to love finding these and sand crabs on the beach as a kid. You could attempt making a saltwater jar in the time being with some marine salt.

I’d put him back where he’s from, jarrariums usually don’t have enough oxygen and food /other resources for things this big to survive in them for long:(

I stink with the information sharing.
It was found on the beach of a freshwater lake in Illinois, USA.

That there is a freshwater clam and will probably die in a jarrarium and likely even a aquarium. A lot of the freshwater species require pristine water conditions with lots of particles floating in it

I won’t be able to go back out until tomorrow evening, but I’ll put him back if he’s still good by tomorrow.
Thanks everyone!!

Looks like *Corbicula fluminea*, an asian (invasive) freshwater clam.
