Should I be worried that this dead tree will kill the neighboring tree?
They are both touching and the part that’s touching has some dead branches on the healthy tree. Ones been dead since last season. I built a new house 2 years ago so guess it was the culprit of murder.
The reason there are dead branches on the healthy tree there is because the living tree shaded out those spots so there was no need for living needles there. Now that the other one is dead it’s just visible, it doesn’t spread like that
It should be fine unless it was killed by a disease but the other would probably have died at the same time if it was.
As a tip though you want to see a bit of the tops of the roots where they exit the trunk on the healthy one. And leaving the fallen needles in place can significantly help them as well, they make a natural mulch bed under themselves over a few years
