Are the roses thornless? Just noticed you didn't have to wear gloves removing those canes. Looks awesome๐
Afternoon Everyone ๐ค
You are so funny this morning, Laura. ๐ Thank you for the laughs.
I love watching your projects almost as soon as I wake up
in the morning! You inspire me each and every day! I love your gardens and Iโve watched you since you were in your condo. I will say I miss you on SATURDAYS & SUNDAYS but I know you need your space๐คฃ๐คฃ๐คฃ
Headed out to my own gardens now๐โค๏ธ
Plants are saying I can breathe again
I like a contained cottage garden. I find I have more peace in my gardens if I get give the plants space and see the mulch in between. Plants take off by the 3rd year and will look like chaos to me if I donโt stick with my vision. My late momโs gardens were very cottage and it would be a lot to look at. She loved it.
Wow, the dahlia's are gorgeous.
Such an impressive cleanup! Chicken coop remains a favorite area for me!
Where did Laura go? There she is under the roses. Chicken coop revamp looks great ๐๐ผ
Learnt a lot from Laura. I now prune my plants and shrubs with confidence! ๐
Maybe use wood screws if possible next time. They wont come out
Somehow it's always so refreshing to watch you clean up, and your fountains are so beautiful! I found that putting in a copper disk or a penny (minted before 1982) keeps the water algae free! I was a skeptic until I tried it myself. It really works!
What a job around the chicken coop but wow what a difference! Looks so good!
I always thought that fountain should be on the brick patio. You initially said you wanted something there that wouldn't block the visual of the Hartley. And now sits that enormous wall of potted plants.
Great job Laura ๐
Would a copper disk (or pennies) work for reducing algae?
I've seen them on Amazon for birdbaths and thought it might save scrubbing for fountains also but I didn't know if they really help as described.
The roses are probably getting fertilized by the chickens too.
My mom has a climbing rose and it's definitely grafted because it has pink, white, and red blooms on it. Not only are they different colors but they're different types of roses too, nature is so cool. It was there when she moved it so we don't even know which of the roses is was "supposed" to be. But my guess is the red and white were grafted to make the pink. But now it's just the whole family growing together. ๐๐

How do you know a rose is own root when buying?
I use bleach to clean out my bird baths. It doesn't hurt anything but really gets it back to being clean and fast. I used a little bleach in my water to mop the kitchen tile and bathroom tile plus all bathroom fixtures, tub, toilet and sink. I've never had stain issues in any of them. It kills germs and my children being toddlers etc spent a lot of time on the floors. I used the mop water on a rose I had right off the garage. Didn't hurt the plant but I came to believe it killed any mold or mildew lurking I'm the soil. That rose is one of the first things I planted when we moved into our home we had built back in 1978. Still here and so is my Kennedy rose shrub. Yep it's still living and blooms until frost which is usually late October or November here in Georgia. I noticed my heritage rose was getting black spot one year, our humidity causes a lot of that. I mixed up clorox in a container that screws onto the water hose that came with solvable fertilizer. I sprayed my roses and my hydrangeas. Black spot went away and the roses bloomed as beautiful as ever. I suppose you could use the bleach people use in their pools. Probably do just as well. We don't have a pool so I wouldn't know, but it is safe for humans an animals. Plus chlorine is used in drinking water. I have well water but my daughters water smells of chlorine all the time. And she uses that water on all her plants inside an out. She doesn't have a mold and mildew issue on her hydrangeas. I told her it's probably because of the water helps keep down the mold and mildew . Just something I happened upon in my younger days. My rose needed water, I needed to empty my mop water so I poured it on . Maybe it didn't help bit it didn't hurt it an I still do the same to this day.

The way you were handling those roses, I am assuming they are thornless. Otherwise, you are one tough girl. lol
