Zone 6a. Looking for ideas on how to better landscape my back yard. What to plant? Where?
Is the wood plank retaining wall actually doing anything or can I remove?
Can I remove the fieldstone or does that help with water mitigation?

Why not like a classic retaining wall made of local stone that people can sit on?
You can add an additional grove of trees on the left next to that lone cedar to create some balance.
Do you like all that turf? Maybe add a group area of decomposed granite and add another element fire pit with Adirondacks.
And then mix in some native shrubs and flowers on the slope.
It doesn’t look like you use the slope. Consider removing the lawn and planting flowers, shrubs and trees that you like to see. Native plants are usually less work once established.
