An eight-week wildlife gardening course, designed for both beginners and those with some experience, will be held weekly on Tuesday evenings at Gosling Sike in Houghton.

The sessions begin on September 9 and are designed to equip attendees with the knowledge and skills to create wildlife-friendly habitats in their own green spaces.

The course combines classroom learning with practical, hands-on activities to help participants garden in harmony with nature.

Lizzy Benn, Cumberland community officer for Cumbria Wildlife Trust and course organiser, said: “We’re really excited to offer this new course and can’t wait to meet you in September.

“We know that many of you want to help nature and wildlife, whether that’s in your own garden or yard, or in a local community green space near your home.”

The course will be delivered by Cumbria Wildlife Trust’s team of wildlife gardening experts, including horticulture manager Adam McGinley, pollinator specialist Charlotte Rankin, and wildlife habitat advisor Jack Dryden.

They will be joined by Shelagh Todd, a horticulturist with more than 45 years of experience.

Ms Todd said: “I’m at my happiest when I’m working in my own garden.

“My gardening style embraces the natural landscape, and sustainable practices are a must for me.”

To encourage community involvement, a free course place will be offered to a community garden.

Bookings must be made by Friday, August 29.
