They explained that this can keep the roots and soil cool. They also recommend watering infrequently and early in the morning so the heat doesn’t dry off the water. This can reduce daily water use. “I would actually recommend deep infrequent waterings over frequent light waterings. Take a hose putting it right above the root system, for about 15-20 minutes, and let it sink down into the roots,” explained Clara Morlock, a perennial gardener with Gardener’s Supply.Landscapers and gardeners have said they are worried about the health of soil if dry weather continues.
