BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) – The estimated $9 million sale of Gardener’s Supply to an Ohio company is now complete.

That’s according to Gardens Alive Inc., which bought the employee-owned Vermont company following an announcement back in June that it had filed for bankruptcy.

Gardens Alive says it plans to keep most of its retail stores in Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts open. However, the seasonal Shelburne location will close. Officials say those employees will be moved into roles at permanent locations. The company says the solar energy research and construction facility in the town of Georgia will stay open, but distribution operations will move to Ohio.

The company says it will retain all Gardener Supply employees across garden centers and manufacturing, and that partnerships with long-term vendors are still being discussed.

In a statement, the company’s CEO said, “We know the circumstances for this transition are challenging, and we are stepping in with purpose. We see the stewardship of this institution as an honor and a responsibility.”

The Vermont Labor Department earlier this month had previously confirmed 60 layoffs.
