Can anyone tell me what’s happening here? The leaves are from the dead crusty plant in the pot next to the aloe ( it died years ago ) but somehow came back to life. Years after death. In a whole other pot. I went to check on it today and now it has purple flowers?

What is going on? Why is it doing so well next to the aloe? How is this possible and is this some weird triple hybrid situation? Joined the subreddit specifically to quench my thirst for what’s going on.

That would be the flower of a coleus plant. I have a few of these. That would also explain how hardy the plant is because these things will not ever choose to die.

Agree that it is definitely a coleus flower stalk bloom. Don’t know where the coleus plant is hiding, unless it’s the teeny, tiny stem with a few leaves that I see on the lower right hand side of your plant. Such a big bloom for such a tiny plant!

Maybe back when the other plant was still alive, it dropped a seed into the aloe pot. And now the seed finally decided to sprout. Some plants’ seeds can lie in the soil for years, waiting for the right conditions to germinate.

That aside, why are you keeping a dead plant around for years? 😅

Looks like you have a little Coleus invader in your pot, and it gave you a pretty flower as a thank you

You have a coleus growing in your aloe pot. Since it has bloomed it will start dying off. Just make sure to remove the remnants of it once it does. They do not come back each spring so you will be good to go. Although it may drop more seeds into the soil. They look like tiny black grains of sand.

    Edit for typo
