To mark 80 years since the surrender of Japan to bring an end to World War Two, Mayor Richard Sutton will rededicate the Abbot Hall Peace Garden to the ‘people of Kendal and the cause of peace in the world’ on Friday, August 15 at 11am.
The short ceremony will see wreaths being laid by the Mayor, the Deputy Lord Lieutenant of Cumbria Sam Rayner and the High Sheriff of Cumbria Dr Geoff Joliffe.
It will also be attended by councillors and representatives of Kendal’s voluntary and faith sectors.

A Kendal Town Council spokesperson commented: “The garden, which was installed 10 years ago, has been completely rejuvenated following a plan created by local renowned horticulturist Shelagh Todd.
“The work was carried out by the Veterans Working Party CIC, who generously volunteered their time and energy.
“The white bricks framing the central path have also been beautifully painted by Friends of the Lads and Girls Club, one of the Mayor of Kendal’s nominated charities for the year.”
