Gardeners and city of Redding officials recently celebrated the 40th year of the Matson, Mowder & Howe Community Garden, a bountiful growing space that’s now operated by a nonprofit.
“We have a group of four ladies that have kind of gotten together to make sure the garden kept on going,” said Christina Piles, one of the garden’s board members.
Visitors celebrated the Community Garden Day by taking a tour among the vegetables and flowers, talking to the growers and making donations for the new group that has a $90,000 fundraising goal to put up new, industrial fencing.
