Plants use light, CO2, and water from the growing media to create glucose, which ultimately will become ATP (adenosine triphosphate) aka energy for your plant through cellular respiration.
One molecule of glucose can split into 38 molecules of ATP (2 from glycolysis, 2 from the Kreb’s cycle, and 34 from the electron transport chain). Once ATP is made, it can power the building of proteins, cellulose, DNA and RNA, pretty much everything lol
ATP is also used to transport ions (nutrients) from the soil into the roots, and then across cell membranes. ATP is also how plants do things inside the cell like copy DNA, build new cell structures and expand cell walls. When a plant is stressed or damaged, ATP helps repair tissue and activate defense mechanisms.
When ATP is used it turns into ADP (adenosine diphosphate), but the cell will continually using energy from more glucose production to effectively re-charge the ATP, almost like a rechargeable battery system.
