I’m composting in a burn can, and these guys greedily munch everything I put in there. I enjoy seeing them work, but I just want to make sure they’re the right worms for my compost. I’m in Georgia (USA).
Yeah that’s good and normal: black soldier fly larvae. It works better if you give them individual names though. Also more fun!

This is definitely a way to compost.
What’s with all of these BSFL posts lately?

Lucky! Speedy, complete composting of anything you throw in there. Like a living garbage disposal.

This is not a healthy compost pile, but the black soldier fly larvae aren’t the problem. There’s too much liquid, (looks like no drainage), and in DESPERATE need of browns (a dry carbon source like fallen leaves, wood chips, sawdust, plain brown corrugated cardboard, straw, pine needles) If what you want is a garbage disposal of food waste, or a chicken feed factory, you’re set (as long as you don’t mind the stench). But this isn’t making compost.
