Your pup likely doesn’t know all the intricate moves that comprise the Chicken Dance, one of the kooky but time-honored ways we celebrate Oktoberfest.

But we bet he knows the word “chicken,” and he also likely loves to be outdoors where all sorts of interesting smells, sights, and shrubs for sniffing do most excellently exist.

South Coast Botanic Garden has long been a place to leg it with your Lassie, at least on those once-a-month days devoted to dog-centric fun.

You can’t visit the lovely destination every day with your dog, but you can every now and then, and come the fall?

It’s truly a Fido festivity, thanks to the shaggy and sunny return of Dogtoberfest.

The annual bring-your-furry-babe fiesta will take place every Saturday and Sunday in October and tickets? They just went on sale Aug. 11.

Complimentary beer tastings for the VIP set, live tunes, the zany chance to don a pretzel necklace (that you make yourself), Bavarian-style vittles for purchase, and The Bierhound Express are some of the uplifting and appetizing elements of the autumn-flavored event.

There’s a free themed koozie, too, to help you remember the sudsy fun.

And if you’re seeking the biergarten experience?

You’ll want to make for the scenic Upper Meadow area. But, of course, you’ll find many paths to stroll, and many shrubs to sniff, throughout the rambling 87-acre garden.

Of course, we’re talking about your pup sniffing the shrubs, but you do you.

Your dog doesn’t have to arrive attired in a dirndl, nor do you, but plenty of revelers do dress the part.

Plan your October Saturday or Sunday outing with your bestie, a canine who may know more about chicken than Chicken Dancing (and that’s okay).
