Got interested in gardening last year and got a bit obsessed with Instagram gardens with white & purple themes.

This is my first attempt at designing a border and I’m pleased with the results.

I’ve included 2 types of hydrangeas (limelight & Annabelle) and David Austin roses (tranquility) and a climbing rose (claire Austin) to cover the whites and to get some structure.

Purples I went with nepeta six giant, verbena lollipop and salvia.

Verbena is such a great plant. Get some trellis and some climbers for next year so you have a green wall

Great work, so much more alive! The insects will make you their god!

How did you paint your fence. Wanting to do mine but only previous experience saw paint run down the neighbours side too!

Great fora first border. I can see that you’ve used a lot of the main design principles in colour and structure.

Next steps for me would be to deepen the border make it at least 1.5m wide and add some different heighted plants. Once you get to winter, observe where may be lacking in structure and plan for something that looks good in winter and then of course bulbs for spring.

Also, look into how to stake a tree. These supports may damage the trees in future.

That looks great and puts me to shame when have still done nothing after about 7years!

Really lovely, but I would put bark mulch down too as it’ll help stop it drying out in this weather and it’ll break down and help the soil.
