Ever since I started growing herbs and flowers with my veggies, Iโ€™ve havenโ€™t had to do any hand pollination. Currently, my oregano is flowering and itโ€™s swarming with hundreds of bees.

Are you trying to steal jobs from the hardworking bees? LOL.

Serious question, do you not have enough bees to pollinate so you do it? Or are you just trying to make sure they get pollinated?

I see lots of bumblebees on mine as well. My problem is my zucchini plants remind me of the parties I went to in college – no ladies ๐Ÿ˜”

Iโ€™m new to gardening and am very confused by hand pollination. I didnโ€™t know this was a thing.. Iโ€™ve noticed that the bees have been out the last few weeks but should I have been doing something before?

I was in the same spot, I hand-pollinated all my early squash blossoms because theyโ€™re open for such a short time and I wanted to be sure. Now that the season is in full swing I couldnโ€™t do it if I wanted to because every flower is always full of some kind of bee. Talk about a good problem to have!

I did same thing then saw this one bee doing its hob.on all 3 of my squash plants. 30+ very large yellow crookneck squashes later and it’s still producing ๐Ÿ˜‚. Be ready to be overrun in squash. If it’s yellow squash dont be afraid for them to get huge. the skin was still butter soft when slicing and not very seedy

I just learned this year about squash bees. We had so many! They are specialist pollinators and the males will nap in the closed flowers. They also donโ€™t sting. So cool to watch those little guys!
