Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we’ve raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We’ve also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most — which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don’t worry, we’ll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat’s milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt — and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

It all started with an idea. See, Kevin’s parents have this cabin in Strawberry, Arizona, and right down the hill is a little shed garage. We’ve always thought about helping them turn it into something fun, usable for the family. But it was finally this year that we were like, “Okay, let’s do it. Let’s do it.” And we decided to turn it into a little cottage because we have such a big family now. We need more sleeping space and maybe another bathroom. Here’s the tutorial on how to do a tiny house with both a frugal reuse person and then a person that also nonfugal. No, the person that does uh good style and decorating. If you do a combo of that, it’s the perfect way to do a project. Together, we came up with three plans. So, the first plan was okay. There were some like pros and cons to it. We didn’t like the bathroom on that one side. The second plan was nice, but then we thought like, why are we saving this stove? We’re not really up there in the cold. So, yeah, we kind of nixed that. But we finally settled on this plan. Plan C. This had the bathroom in a good spot to be able to do the plumbing really easily, and everything worked out really good. But we knew it was going to take us a long time because we would have to drive up like in trips over the course of a year. And so, yeah, it was it took a lot of planning. We knew we were going to start really in the summer, but Kevin went up there real quick in the winter and just couldn’t help himself. One of the times, I think you were taking Lenny to college or something. Oh, yeah. You were like, “Okay, I’m gonna put up the wall, the faux wall for the bathroom, so we could get an idea of what it’s going to look like.” It look like a room. It was a bathroom. So, then the summer rolled around and we were ready to go. And the first step was cleaning out the place. Oh, that’s what it looked like to start with. That’s crazy. Yeah. We had to take all this out. Said goodbye to the stove. Said goodbye to the pool table. That was an adventure to get that one out. That was so heavy. And then just a lot of other little storage things. Cleaned it up, washed the walls, and then we got started on the paint that we changed our minds on. We painted this entire room with this gold paint that was left over from the cabin. And I thought, “Oh, let’s just make it match.” Like, I don’t really care about color, but Denell does care about color. Yeah. Just it was just a practice one. Yeah. And then it was a primer. It was a primer and then we did the real color afterwards. Yeah. There you go. I want to talk to Facebook Marketplace and oh my gosh, you guys, I found this super rich couple in Scottsdale who were selling all the cabinets in their house and it they were beautiful. And so I thought, okay, we can do this. We can get these. They said we could have them all if we could get them out ourselves. And we were like, we’re strong. So, we went there and because this granite countertop was like 4 in thick, four inches thick, we couldn’t break it and we couldn’t get it off. They wanted us to break it, but it was so glued to the cabinet, like hard glued. There was just no way. And we were just stuck and we were so we were sad, frustrated cuz there was just no way we were going to be able to do this. So, we went home defeated. They were so nice. They called us back and they said, “Hey,” cuz of course they were out of town at their other house. Um they called us back and they said we’ll use our jackhammer and break it all up. Well, they said they would let their they would have their contractor do it for us and we’re like that’d be great. So they took them all apart for us and we were able to salvage as many as we could and we didn’t know how we were going to fit this in. But yeah, we only took about a fourth of the cabinets cuz the mansion was huge. But it was a lot. It was still a lot. So back up at the cabin after Kevin took down the garage door, the last part of the garage door, and he did it really good. that he didn’t kill himself or anything. So, no. Yeah. After I finished painting, we painted the finished the primer. Third coat. Yes. I forgot. We did like three coats. Oh, you guys. It was a lot. So, then we decided to get started on the floor, which we had plans. We had these grand plans. We were going to stain the concrete. Yep. So, we washed it. Washed it. And we primed it and acid cleaned it. Yeah. did all this stuff and we started with the stain. Now, we were we did a lot of research and then we asked this company and they said, “No, no, no. You don’t want to do the acid stain. You want to do regular stain. Regular waterbased.” We’re like, “All right.” And so, we went ahead and got to work and it looked really nice at first. We were super excited about it. And when we got all done with the two colors we layered, we were like, “This is like perfect. I can’t Why doesn’t everybody do this?” And then they told us we needed to add like a gloss finish to it. Mhm. But the finish wasn’t gloss. It was more of a dusty. Anyways, the floor was a mess. The floor had all these streaks on it. It never fully dried and or when it did dry, it looked so gross. So, we were pretty bummed about it, but they made us do a third gloss coat on it and then it made it passable. They were Well, yeah. So, we got to a point which was doable. We We were like, “Okay, we’ll work with this.” And so, we just moved on past that. cocked the bottom of the wall, which he didn’t want to do, but us girls wanted to do it just in case of spiders, you know? It’s good. And it was about this point, I remember this day, I was so depressed because I had this moment where I was like, I don’t think we can do this color. And I felt so bad that we had all put so much time into painting it, but it just was not looking good. And there was not a lot of light in the cottage. So, I was like, we needed to lighten it up. It was just like I had to just pull the plug. So, I was trying to not be sad. Yeah, Kevin cheered me up by building some walls. That’s the fun part. Started to look like something. You start putting up walls, doors. Looking back, I feel like that’s the only thing I would have changed is just made them a little bit bigger, but that’s okay. That’s okay. We did the bathroom wall. We did the bedroom wall. Oh, and then I ran to the store and I was able to get some paint swatches. Got the right paint. I did three colors. They were all kind of variations of gray. Even though they look really white on the wall, they weren’t white. And I had the green cuz I knew I was going to match it with some I was going to do a green wall. So, you’ll see. And I think it was I think it was the middle one that won out. Yeah, it was the middle one. Looks like really beige there, but it’s actually gray when you paint it. Kevin and Lydia got to work installing the bathtub and then putting drywall on the walls. This was an exciting day because we were so excited to actually see a wall. Then you get some cool look. Yeah. Oh, and then start to build the kitchen. And then we got to bring the cabinets in. This was really exciting. Yeah, it’s like Tetris. You put all these shapes different places and see where they fit. Oh man, we moved these around so much cuz we were trying to find the perfect fit and use them all. Yeah, we found the perfect We found it. Man, it took us like a whole day, but we figured it out. It was exciting. So, things were coming along. We had the walls that were nice and bright now. And I got to work on doing like a craftsman trim around the windows. And that was the finishing touch. Oh man, I couldn’t have done it without you though because my brain could never figure out all these measurements. It was It was insane. But we did it together. My parents helped us a lot. So that was good. Kevin did his little electrical stuff that I hope is good. Is it good? It’s good, right? It’s good. Works. And then we started to get cool finds like we found this mirror at the thrift store for two bucks. And we just got to work doing a little bit of detail work and then adjusting the cabinets, which um this was a lot to cut and to like adjust them to fit up there. That was a lot of work. I remember that. Yeah, that was crazy. We had to hang them up and get them to like it was like do we match the wall or do we match the ceiling? That was crazy. But we just Man, we used almost every single part of these cabinets and repurposed different little sections. Yeah, we had enough cabinets to make everything. Kitchen, bathroom, closets, bedrooms. So, we had an extra set and we decided to use in this little area between the closet and the bathroom. Yeah, that worked good to make like a little linen closet. And this was so cool cuz we actually took these out of their laundry room at the at the rich people’s house. We just call them the rich people. They were really nice. But yeah, and then there were some sides I had to stain because they weren’t stained previously, but it was coming together. Look how nice that looks. Then we got the grand idea to use the last little bits as dressers next to the beds. So these are just kitchen cabinets, but Kevin was able to cut the bottom off and I think the back Did you cut the back off a little bit? I think so. And so it just made them a little not so massive. Oh, and then your favorite part, all my shiplap. Oh man, the shiplap turned out so good. I’m so I made this half wall kind of in the main room. I didn’t get very good footage of it, but I put shiplap up and then I put a shelf on there. Yeah, it came out so painted it. Oh, put our deer head up. Oh my gosh. Goat/ deer. Oh, and the coolest part is they also had this really nice crown molding that came with the cabinets. They gave that to us and we were able to just make everything look so nice and finished. And I had lots of plumbing and stuff to do in the bathroom. Yeah, man. You had a ton to do. We made an island with two cabinets. And we decided to put something soft on the bottom so that we could slide it around if we needed to. Yeah, cuz we weren’t solid on where it was going to be. Now we are, but back then we weren’t. And then it was so exciting cuz we started to bring in furniture. So, we brought beds and rugs. Oh, so this was so fun to do. This is the part where I couldn’t be frugal and and do crappy stuff. You have to get you have to get new sheets and stuff and I got new stuff because this is I want it to look cute. Cool decorations. After we cleaned out all the cabinets cuz they were dusty. They had been stored in our backyard and then had traveled all the way up there. So, they were a mess. cut some countertops with coran countertops, which is which is a plastic type of coran that’s really easy to cut and install. That’s true. That’s like a frugal thing that we did cuz they’re not they’re not quartz or marble or anything. They’re a lot cheaper, but you know, they’re good for for this little cottage. We don’t need anything fancy. We don’t need 4 in granite. And then the bathroom came together. Our tub surround we installed and we put all this trim in there. And then we used silicone cocking, which is the worst. Oh man. To make everything look good. But then looked really good. So fun to like finally be able to decorate and put everything together. And then finally my wallpaper wall. Oh man, that was amazing. I had to prep the heck out of this wall. First I had to mud it really smoothly, sand it. Then I had to do like a primer on there and then put the wallpaper wallpaper glue and all of that. But it came together so nicely. I got this from that wallism site and it’s like large large wallpaper so not necessarily a big repeating pattern more like piece of wall art. So that was really cool. Um this was a really cold windy day. We got a piece of plywood and we stripped it. We stained it. This was going to go on the toe kicks of all of the cabinets. Molding for the cabinets and then for our faux pillars and Yeah, I forgot about that. So we have these two corners of the wall where it just looked a little bit odd as the two ends met. And so we decided, you know what? Let’s make it look like it’s a little pillar. I don’t know if this is cheapy looking or if this actually looks good, but looks good. I mean, we’re happy with it. It makes it look like we’ve got some pillars in there. But yeah, just the pictures were coming together. We installed a chandelier over the island. Yeah, Danell did her magic of decorating and she did that with $20 chandelier and finding all this cool stuff. Then we have one last little cabinet and we shoved it in the closet and we decided to keep any extra tools and little things we need as we do the last little bit of work on this area. Added a door stop to the door and that is it. We Oh man, that looks So we’ve got the bathroom. This is our main room, our sitting area. And then the little bunk area for the kids. And then we’ve got our bedroom in the back there. Danell’s masterpiece of decorating. Look at that. So exciting. So fun. And now we have a place that our family can stay when we go up. We decided, you know, we’ve got adult kids now. It’s almost better for our family just to share a bathroom together. Yeah. And you know what? We went up there as a family. We had a family reunion. I’m happy to say our adult kids were completely fine sleeping in the same area together. In fact, we did bring up one of those separators kind of divide the room. Oh, yeah. and they said that was okay, but they’re like we they didn’t really need it either. So, I think that we’ll put that up when everybody’s up here, but a lot of times this cabin’s just going to be used for like if Kevin and I go up for a real quick trip or somebody else goes up. Mhm. Oh, we also did the trim on the attic door. Made a little nice covering for that. We added some trim to the countertops. We had a little bit of leftover trim. We’re like we use like every bit of those cabinets. It’s crazy. But that is it, you know, for now. I think we still need to do a little bit of trim work around the edges of the doors and but that’s it. We’re pretty excited about it. So, that’s how you turn a shed into a tiny house cottage. Okay, I didn’t want to end this video without an ultrasound of Cricket here because I’ve been good. It’s been like 6 days since I last ultrasounded her. We didn’t really see much, but it was kind of early. So, we’re hoping that this is this is going to be a good one. You better have something. Yeah. I mean, she was in heat, standing heat. We bred her with Pokey. It probably was just a little bit early. Not real Kevin. Oh no. [Music] Cricket. Going way up in there. No, we should be seeing clear clear bubbles by now. Crickets. Yeah. Stuff at the top. That’s poop. That’s her bladder. Cricket. She’s not pregnant. That’s crazy. And we had this problem last year with her. The first time we bred her, she didn’t take. So, I don’t know why. Mhm. We flushed her. Like, we did all the right things. So, I’m not really sure. Now, I’ve got to count back and see like Yeah. She must have had a heat sometime in there. Yeah. Um cuz we’re about like 45 days. Freaking Okay. So, I’m going to do some calculations. I’m going to figure out where the next heat should be expected and then wipe some of that out. Okay, bye. Thank you. Thanks for nothing. We’ll have to try again. I was really hoping to have November kids with her, but now, even if we bred her now, we’d probably have Christmas kids, and she’s not even in heat right now. So, we’re going to definitely have to wait and see if she goes into heat. Oh crap. I swear this girl is she’s making my life hard.

Very nice great job!
I adore how when you tried to say something semi negative about you being non frugal, Kevin pulled the wonderful partner move of seeing that extension of you in such a contrasting loving light!!! Gotta spend money but the point is you made it look great!! Wouldn't it tie it all together to just paint the door green? Good luck, guys!
Very nice!
Love Love Love the Cottage!! 🥰❤️ You and Kevin make a great team. Fantastic job!
You all did such an incredible job on the design and renovating. It’s so comfy cosy even just looking at it.

Pokey you have one job. Get to poking.
It turned out ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!!!! ❤😍
Apparently the dude that did the electrical is an engineer and this genius puts a freaking cabinet in front of a panel. That guy has the brains of the dumbest goat ever. Perfect example of why real electricians hate engineer book smart fools
Kevin’s commentary always makes me laugh. Lots of “mmm yeah”
Hello, I've watched your content for many years and have enjoyed many hilarious moments, but my heart is heavy now because i know the time is upon us where everything that does not belong to Jesus is removed from the earth. I am not judging, and I am not angry, but i tell those whom i love, you must give your heart to Jesus and believe on Him. He is alive, and He is coming back soon for those who have been washed in the blood of Him who God sent to save us. This is real.
It looks great! Approximately what size is the building?
Are you going to the copper caprine classic show your does look really nice you should take them 😊

You guys work so well together and the cabin looks amazing.
Am I right in thinking you said that you're planning on retiring cricket next year? so after her next kidding (should she have a successful pregnancy?) If so, what's the reasoning behind this, could you explain, be interesting to hear. Cottage looks wonderful!
I'd love to know what color and brand of paint you used for your green shiplap wall. It's stunning. Great job on your project!
I'd love to see some videos of the goats doing goat things, even if it's not super edited.
