We were all out hiking. Kids were told not to touch the plants. Kids touched the plants and grabbed the leafs off. It looks like poison ivy to me. Unable to get more pictures as we wanted to get everything washed. Northeastern Arizona.

Yup. You may get no reaction from it though, there’s a decent amount of the population immune to it.

The first exposure may not give much reaction. With the first exposure, the immune system is primed to react more strongly the next times.

100% poison ivy. Usually as long as you wash off with soap within 3 hours or so you’ll be fine.

Also, like said, you may be immune to it. My dad is. Me on the other hand, that would be a trip to the doctor for steroids. Needless to say I’m vigilant to the point of paranoia because of it.

To wash after a poison ivy exposure, take your shoes off outside. Take your clothes off into a garbage bag and tie it off before going directly into the shower. You need to scrub with soap and a wash cloth starting with your hands and arms, then your head all the way down the body. The oil
Is sticky and can easily spread.

Thank you all! Everyone is all washed off. So now we pray.

Doesn’t look like Wisconsin Poison Ivy.

so-kids pay you no mind- no more hikes for them! another fact about po-never, never burn it-the oils get in the smoke, get in your throat-guess you had better not tell the kids not to burn it-then they will want to?

I see this post is only an hour old. Run running alcohol over everywhere that may have been touched. Not soap and water. Break down the oil. Then clean it off. Good luck. If the rash is bad you will need to get prescription cream.

  9. TECNU is a good brand for poison rash relief and control, and the anti-itch spray is amazing to help dry it out too. They have soaps, creams, and sprays.

Send someone to the store for poison ivy wipes, I’ve found them pretty effective

That doesn’t look like any poison ivy I’ve ever seen before.

    Edit:TIL of western poison ivy

I touched some poison ivy while fishing and never got a reaction. I wonder if I’m one of the few that’s immune to it, I eat mangoes and trim mango trees regularly and never had a reaction to the sap either which apparently also has urushiol in it.

OP you only posted 3 hours ago so THERE IS STILL TIME HERE IS WHAT YOU DO

Get your kids in the shower with DAWN DISH SOAP

do a MEDICAL SCRUB-IN, hands and arms up to the elbow, and do it THREE times. Then proceed to do every other part of the body THREE TIMES!!! starting with the head, face, shoulders and arms and hands again, chest, midsection, crotch and legs and feet, EACH THREE TIMES, EACH IN ORDER

THIS IS AN INVISIBLE OIL WHICH DOESN’T WANT TO LET GO AND CAN ONLY BE REMOVED WITH BOTH MECHANICAL AGITATION AND CHEMICAL BONDING (VIGOROUS RUBBING WITH ***DAWN DISH SOAP***)

If you do all this you can prevent the worst of reactions to yourself and your children, then work to scrub down any SURFACES which may have been contaminated by the INVISIBLE OIL

    ALSO:
ALL CLOTHES IN A GARBAGE BAG AND DIRECTLY TO THE WASHING MACHINE, USE DISPOSABLE GLOVES TO LOAD AND TREAT WITH TREMENDOUS CARE

I can’t stress enough, if you haven’t done this degree of washing, you haven’t done enough washing
