You could probably get some stuff in now if you really want to, I’ve got Turks cap, mistflower, and a pride of Barbados that are all happy enough that went in during the last few weeks, plus plenty of container stuff (holding things in grow bags to nature a little that will go in ground in a few months – agastache, Blackfoot daisy, salvias, zexmenia, coreopsis, fall aster, rock penstemon). If you’re willing to water and mulch heavily you’ll be ok.
The only thing I’ve lost that I’ve planted new since July 4 was a columbine that I think just cooked, but I have hope that might show back up in the fall.
If you get some 5 gal grow bags, you can shop the tiny young stuff at nurseries now and put the bags approx where you think you’ll plant so you can mess with layout and arrangement ideas.
