Tottington Civic Pride, a group of volunteers formed two years ago, have been working tirelessly improving public spaces across the town.

The 13 members were initially inspired by Ramsbottom Civic Pride, and began weeding on Market Street.

The group then moved on to clearing leaves from footpaths in the autumn months.

A large donation of plants and shrubs from Bury Tesco through the stores Community Champion, Wendy Howarth last year moved Tottington Civic Pride’s focus to improving the public gardens.

Judges from North West in Bloom, a regional organisation that administers the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Britain in Bloom competition in Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, visited Tottington on July 29

Tottington Civic Pride chairman Cllr Yvonne Wright said: “It’s been a lot of hard work but I can honestly say we have thoroughly enjoyed the challenge and overwhelmed by the wonderful feedback from local residents both on social media and on the streets whilst we are working.

“It’s been really heartwarming.”

Treasurer Sue Hyland said: “We have worked hard with fundraising events too, enabling us to buy plants and also received help and financial donations from businesses and Tottington residents for which we are very grateful”.

Secretary Jill Brenchley added: “We also appreciate support from Bury  Council and Tottington Litter Pickers who are a great help too keeping the village spotless.”

The winners will be announced in a ceremony hosted at the Toughsheet Community Stadium in Bolton later in the year.
